Pattern, colour and light made for a particular place
This site is an independent archive of work by Jamie Julien Brown, a London artist whose projects range from site-specific wall paintings and hand-painted signage to stacked glass totem lights. It brings together the projects and images that survive from the artist’s former website.
Most of the pieces start from the building they are made for: the pipes and columns of an office, the boards of an empty house, the long wall of a bar. The colour is flat and confident, the shapes are geometric, and the scale is usually the whole room.
The archive is organised in two parts. Seven projects have their own pages with notes on how and where they were made. The rest of the surviving images form a library of murals and interiors, illustration and print, and lights, so that the range of the practice can be seen at a glance even where the full story of a piece has been lost.

Selected projects
Seven projects were documented on the original site with their own notes. Each page below repeats those notes in the third person and shows the photographs that are still available.

An all-white series of totem lights that sits between a lamp and a sculpture.

Handmade lanterns that reinterpret the traditional Chinese lantern for a New Year celebration.

Site-specific paintings for music venues, each one inspired by a particular piece of music.

Hand-painted signage for an office in London, with typography reused on the company website.

Interior artwork for a digital media company in Shoreditch, built from colour gradients.

A lone abandoned house, boarded up and painted with maritime distress flags.
Working on site
Site-specific work means designing for one place and accepting that it may not survive the next refit. A painted shutter, a lettered office floor or a mural in a hotel corridor is often seen by thousands of people and then painted over. Photographs are frequently all that remains, which is why an archive like this is useful.
Objects in glass and concrete
Alongside the walls, the practice produced free-standing lights. The totems stack found glass shades around a lit core on a concrete base, first in colour and later in an all-white series. See White Totem Lights for the full set of photographs.
